Freemasonry in Lafayette has a long history beginning in 1830 when Perry Lodge #37 was granted a dispensation from the Grand Lodge of Indiana.
In 1851 Star City Lodge under dispensation was formed and the following year in 1852 it was chartered as Lafayette Lodge #123 with Herman Peters as our first Worshipful Master.
Elizur Deming, a physician and an Underground Railroad agent, and Henry C. Lawrence, a pharmacist, both, were involved in the formative years of Freemasonry in Lafayette. They also both served the Grand Lodge of Indiana as Grand Master of Masons in Indiana. Elizur Deming was Grand Master from 1847 to 1850 and was responsible for laying the cornerstone of the Grand Lodge in Indianapolis on October 25, 1848.
The Lodge currently meets the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00pm, except for the months of July and August, at the Lafayette Masonic Temple. The Lafayette Masonic Temple is located at the northwest corner of 6th and Columbia Streets in Lafayette, right across the street from City Hall.
